Oracle and Amazon Web Services (AWS) team up to integrate Oracle Database services within the AWS cloud platform. This new venture, known as Oracle Database@AWS, is set to launch in 2025 and promises to enhance cloud capabilities for businesses worldwide.
What’s New?
The partnership will enable customers to utilize Oracle Autonomous Database and Oracle Exadata Database Service directly on AWS infrastructure. This integration aims to deliver a unified experience for the users of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and AWS. Key features include integrated database management, consolidated billing, and comprehensive customer support.
Seamless Integration and Enhanced Performance
Oracle Database@AWS will allow seamless connection of Oracle Database data to AWS services, such as Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) and AWS Analytics tools. It will enable organizations to leverage their existing skills while enjoying a fully integrated experience. The service will also address the need for low-latency connections between Oracle databases and AWS-hosted applications, potentially improving performance for enterprise workloads.
Larry Ellison, Chairman and CTO at Oracle, stated, “To meet customer demand for multi-cloud options, Amazon and Oracle are connecting AWS services with Oracle Database technology, including the Oracle Autonomous Database.”
Benefits for Businesses
The new service offers several key advantages:
- Direct integration with AWS Analytics services without the need for ETL processes.
- Migration options are compatible with Oracle Zero Downtime Migration.
- Procurement through AWS Marketplace, allowing the use of existing AWS commitments and Oracle licenses.
- Unified support from both AWS and Oracle.
- Integration with Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) for enhanced database backups and disaster recovery.
This partnership marks a significant shift in cloud strategy, reflecting the growing demand for multi-cloud solutions. With a preview expected later this year and wider availability in 2025, Oracle Database@AWS aims to provide businesses with unparalleled flexibility and scalability.
Matt Garman, CEO at AWS, commented, “This new, deeper partnership will provide Oracle Database services within AWS, allowing customers to take advantage of the flexibility, reliability, and scalability of the world’s most widely adopted cloud alongside the enterprise software they count on.”
