San Jose, July 23, 2024– Adobe has announced the release of its new Firefly AI tools for Illustrator and Photoshop, marking a significant advancement in the company’s AI capabilities. The latest updates, launched on Tuesday, promise to transform the creative process for graphic designers by enabling them to generate textures and images using brief text prompts, drastically reducing the time required for these tasks.
AI-Powered Creativity at Your Fingertips
Adobe’s new Firefly tools bring a wealth of innovative capabilities to Photoshop and Illustrator, allowing users to leverage artificial intelligence for faster and more efficient design processes. The new features let creatives generate textures and images with just a few text prompts, cutting down on hours of manual work.
Deepa Subramaniam, Adobe’s VP of Product Marketing, highlighted the company’s commitment to integrating AI while maintaining a creator-friendly approach. “We’re putting these powerful tools directly into the hands of our users with generous credit limits as part of their Creative Cloud plan,” Subramaniam explained in an interview with TechCrunch.
Illustrator Gets Smarter with Generative Shape Fill
Illustrator’s latest feature, “Generative Shape Fill,” is now in beta. This tool allows users to enhance shapes with detailed textures describing their desired outcome or selecting a style reference. The feature utilizes Adobe’s updated Firefly Vector model, providing sliders for adjusting the level of detail. Once generated, users can further refine these details, setting this tool apart from other AI image generators.
Photoshop’s New AI-Driven Text-to-Image Generator
Photoshop users can now access Firefly’s text-to-image generator, it’s a feature that was previously in beta. With a simple “Generate Image” button and descriptive text, users can create AI-generated images directly within the application. This capability, powered by Adobe Firefly’s Image 3 Foundation model, reflects Adobe’s strategy to seamlessly integrate AI into its existing tools without additional subscription fees.
Broadening Adobe’s AI Ecosystem
Despite not charging a premium for AI tools, Adobe is experiencing significant benefits. According to the company, customers are upgrading to high plans to gain more generative credits for Firefly, which has produced over 9 billion images since its launch in March 2023.
In addition to AI features, Adobe is enhancing Illustrator with new tools like Dimension, which aids in calculating image dimensions, and Mockup, which now allows users to place logos on any uploaded image. Photoshop users can look forward to the new Selection Brush and Adjustment Brush tools that are designed to simplify repetitive tasks.
Adobe’s latest updates reflect its ongoing dedication to empowering creators with advanced technology while addressing concerns about AI’s impact on creative industries. By integrating these tools into existing Creative Cloud plans, Adobe continues to set the standard for innovation and user-centric design.
