The Microsoft Querétaro Data Center opening ceremony, held last week, marked an important milestone, as Mexico becomes the first Spanish-speaking country in Latin America which has a cloud region hosted by Microsoft. Mexico finds itself as a key strategic location that not only meets the rising cloud services needs within the country but also becomes a regional hub for digital transformation for both local as well as global organizations that are eyeing the region’s capabilities.
Data from Microsoft projects that the new data center region will contribute to creation jobs of about 110,000 professionals; direct and indirect jobs in trade amounting to close to 52,000; 43,000 in banking; 58,000 in manufacturing and 40,000 in communication and media.
Microsoft’s investment in Mexico does not only have economic benefits but it also shows the company’s dedication to promoting technological improvement and addressing the digital divide. In the past two years, Microsoft has worked together with locals and not-for-profit organizations in the provision of technology skills training for over 2,000 people.
